Chang Family

Mountain Family Photos

Ada and her family live in Toronto. She found me on Instagram and booked a mountain session while they were in town visiting her in-laws. We had scheduled for the Monday, the last day they were in Calgary. The weather was not looking too promising so she got in touch on the Friday morning letting me know that they had arrived and suggesting moving the session up if I could accommodate it. So I figured it out and was able to hit the road to get there just in time for last light.

I usually schedule family sessions earlier in the evening, around golden hour, for the photos to have a warm and vibrant look. But I must say that I would love to book more family sessions around that time of the day for families whose kids are able to stay up a little later. Even more so now that the days are getting shorter, it won’t actually be that late. I love how intimate these portraits turned out.

I will definitely be enjoying our last few summer nights like these before the fall nip in the air shows up. But I guess that it will also come with gorgeous colours, warm cozy sweaters, flowy scarves and snuggles under a blanket – so I am not complaining!

If you go through a few of my blog posts, you will notice that I like ending them with an image of the landscape where we took the family photos. I think that it is part of the experience and the memories that were created on that day. I like framing pictures in my house that aren’t portraits. I even like printing them on a larger canva or on metal because they are great for home decor. And so much more personal when they are taken on a night when memories were made as a family.

This truly was an amazing and warm summer night in the mountains.
