Amy and Cody

When I first spoke with Amy and Cody, they had just cancelled their big wedding, but they knew that the one thing they were not willing to compromise on was the day that they would be called husband and wife. At that point, she didn’t think that she would be able to wear her dress since it probably couldn’t get altered. They asked me if they could hire me for just an hour to take a few photos of their very simple ceremony in their backyard. I heard back from them a couple of weeks later with great news – she would get the dress and they would have a few guests there. Fast forward a few more weeks, more guests are allowed so a few more of their closest friends and family would be able to join them. They even decided to get the bus that they wanted from the start (they are both teachers)!

When I showed up at the house where Amy was getting ready, I got the warmest welcome from her mom and auntie, aka her Calgary mom, who let me know that I would find the bride upstairs. When I walked into the room where she was, she gave me the absolute biggest smile that I have ever seen in my life. That smile would set the tone for the rest of their beautiful day.

There were a lot of things that had to be done differently. Amy got a really heartfelt phone call in the morning from a close friend who was not able to make it due to the circumstances. But she was still there for her. They broadcasted their ceremony live online for those who were not able to be present physically. But those guests were still there for them. They even got a torrential downpour of rain for good luck, which came at the very best time, while everyone was inside getting ready! Then the sky completely cleared for their intimate backyard ceremony.

And in the end, their day was “Everything we dreamed of.”
