In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session | Calgary, Alberta

The first thing I noticed when I walked in the house was the round couch. I have the same one in a different colour at home and loved taking pictures of my babies on it so I knew it would be perfect for their photos.

Then I started analyzing the lighting in the house. It was pretty dark, but the sun gave us one perfect beam of light through a small window in the staircase. And I knew exactly where to place my reflector to harvest all of that gorgeous light.

Then we started taking photos and these three kids were so so so good! At the end of the session, Jenn mentioned that she really enjoyed the experience and used the word “relaxing” while describing it. Relaxing isn’t a word I would have thought of using while describing a newborn session, but I also have kids, and I truly believe in the value of having someone come to you and take photos in the comfort of your home.

And you end up with photos that not only capture your children and who they are at a certain age, but that also capture your environment, your home, and special things that you have put together while you were anxiously awaiting for that little one to show their face. I am so incredibly grateful every time a family welcomes me into their home. There is a certain level of vulnerability that comes with really opening up and letting someone capture those true moments, bonds and emotions. This family is so in love and I am so happy to have been able to catch a tiny glimpse of their new life as a family of five.
