Hey, I’m Val!

Telling Your Story As It Happens

Well let’s start by listing my hobbies (learning languages, hiking, camping, snowboarding) and telling you more about my personal life (grew up as a creative and now married to my amazing husband for ten years and raising two daughters). I love travel and adventure, and I’m the let’s-plan-the-next-one-before-this-one-is-over person in my family!

But what I really want you to know is that what truly drives me is connecting with you—seeing your joy and capturing the most beautiful, authentic moments of your life and not letting a label sticking out or a necklace clasp in the wrong place mess up the photos.

I have years of photography experience and I will plan everything months in advance.

I’m the kind of person who can connect with just about anyone over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

I’m here to serve and support you, to really get to know you so that when the moment fades, you can relive it all over again through your photos. I’m in it for the long haul—whether it’s your wedding, starting a family, or launching a business, I want to preserve it.

In A Snapshot

Photography Style – captured in the most natural way (with a touch of editorial)

Editing Style —warm and vibrant, with humans as the subject even when the views are stunning (don’t worry, I’ll include both)

Artistic – in the true meaning of the word: a reflection of the individual human, couple, and family painted into every pixel.

Behind The Lens

Travel photography came first.

Not that I took fancy photos or anything. I just tucked a point-and-shoot camera in my small handmade purse bought from a street vendor in Central America and I took it everywhere I went.

I backpacked for weeks and learned to slow down and take it all in.

And I felt so inspired.

I came back and bought my first DSLR.

And then I was lucky to have friends and coworkers who were getting married and having babies and asked me to capture all of that for them.

Not that having a camera made me qualified at the time. But I do feel like I had an eye for it and my gut was telling me how to do a lot of things right.

There were also things I was not doing right.

I’ve educated myself, upgraded my gear and grown so much as a photographer since then. I took pictures of friends and family for a few years before putting myself out there and taking pictures of strangers.

Turns out a lot of those strangers are now friends or people I see every year. Hopefully, that will be you too.

Celebrating The Moments That Matter

The fun you have.

The family and friends you share.

The feelings you want to hold on to.

Photos freeze moments in time, and I want to freeze the feelings that went along with it.
