A Note from the Photographer

Shauna and Joe stepped into a vintage daydream on their wedding day at the Lougheed House.

The blooms in the gardens were so, so colourful — layers of florals that made everything feel alive and cinematic. Paired with the historic house, it was the perfect complement to Shauna’s midi dress (which she worked like a model!) and Joe’s sharp chocolate brown suit and bow tie. Every detail was intentional, timeless, and effortless.

We leaned into both romance and playfulness for their portraits. We infused a strong editorial, vintage feel into the imagery, including motion blur, soft out-of-focus framing, direct flash, and other nostalgic techniques. The result was a gallery that feels classic, like stills from an old film.

The overcast sky lingered most of the day, eventually rolling into a dramatic rainstorm — perfectly timed while everyone was cozy inside for dinner. And then, just when we thought the day had given us everything, the clouds parted. The sky opened in the most breathtaking way, sending a golden beam of sunset light through the gardens. We slipped out in that soft, glowing light for one final set of portraits — the most magical closing to a perfect day.

Your style and your venue fit seamlessly together. Which came first, your vision for a vintage inspired wedding in a stylish midi dress and dapper suit, or the venue, and how did it all come together?

“I’ve always loved the style of the 1950’s and classic vintage. I loved the idea of back in the day when they did small chapel weddings and the minimal aesthetic with sweet little details to make it special. I had the idea of the dress first and when we went to go look at suits, we found the perfect one that perfectly tied everything in. We had both spent years walking past and visiting the Lougheed grounds before we had met and once we did the walk through, we knew it had to be the place.”

Why did you choose to have a micro wedding and to keep your guest list short and sweet?

“We were looking for a budget friendly wedding and wanted it to feel more intimate with our guests. We were able to comfortably spend time with everyone and make all those special memories that we’ll have forever.”

There were many gorgeous gardens all around the venue, and many sexy nooks inside – which area was your favourite?

“Our favourites areas were upstairs and the bar. They have that elegant, sophisticated feel that we were excited for.”

What was your favourite part of your wedding day – if you can even pick one?!

“Mine is hearing Joe’s vows being read to me and seeing him cry (this is a rare moment I get and it was so meaningful to me to have that). Joe’s is the ceremony and sneaking into the area we weren’t supposed to be doing photos*.”

*Photographer disclaimer on this one, the sneaky photos are not included in the post and permission was asked but it turned out that we had asked the wrong person, oopsies. We were forgiven and the photos (that are stunning) will forever be in the vault 😉
