A Note from the Photographer

There was a lot of attention to detail. There was a lengthy wedding bible outlining the whole day. There was a really talented florist who set up the floral arrangements. And there was an on-point day-of coordinator. So this day was really well planned and executed. It was seamless. It also was so laid-back, go with the flow and emotional. They had a really well planned wedding with the right people in place to allow them to enjoy every minute of it, in the moment and worry free.

Between our original meeting, their engagement session, our pre-wedding scouting meet up and their wedding day, I’ve gotten to know Allison and Andrew well and this was it. It was the perfect wedding day for them.

Their wedding included some traditional elements, but a lot more non-traditional — our wedding day can be anything we want it to be — elements.

We met up at Bowmont Park, where they live and walk their dogs regularly, which made not only their first look and private vows so meaningful, but the place they chose to exchange them as well.

Then we hopped over to the Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs to meet up with their friends and family for photos. They didn’t have an official bridal party, but when I saw that group of friends, I suddenly felt inspired and we had so much fun with the whole group!

And then of course we headed to Wild Rose Brewery for the big celebration with everyone. A & A brewed up a wedding that was unique and their unconventional approach added a refreshing twist to tradition.

This was a true case of ale you need is love… and the best entourage.

(Threw in a few puns — just couldn’t resist!)

What did the moments surrounding your first look and private vows feel like?

“Equal parts of excitement and feeling nervous. When I first saw Allie, I was so shocked at how amazing and beautiful she looked — so much so that I burst into tears! I was also relieved to have her by my side, to be with her and to share our special day together. Our private vows were very intimate and I felt a profound sense of love and care as we shared them with each other.”

Why did you take the non-traditional route of not having a bridal party but still having your friends meet up for photos prior to the ceremony?

“We wanted everyone to feel comfortable, relaxed and to enjoy out wedding. We didn’t want anyone getting up super early to get their hair and makeup done. We really wanted them to enjoy the day. We still decided to invite a few close friends to create some special memories with, and to help us feel more relaxed going into our ceremony.”

How was your overall experience at Wild Rose Brewery?

“It was never our first choice to get married in a Brewery! But we can honestly say that it exceeded our expectations. We were shocked at how beautiful it looked, and how supportive the staff were. We were challenged with finding something to accommodate our budget for our wedding. We wanted something in the city that could provide both a ceremony and a reception space. For us, Wild Rose ticked all those boxes on the practical side for wedding planning. The staff at Wild Rose was very supportive with us transforming the venue into what we had envisioned. Plus, as an added bonus, we have an easy place for us to visit to relive all those memories we created!”

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

“Definitely the first look and the last hour where we just danced, laughed, and had fun together. Those were times where we could relax and take it all in.”

“We also really enjoyed taking our photos with family and friends… and especially the ones with our dogs — those are probably our favourites! It was nice to have a breather and just sit with everyone before the ceremony and nightly festivities.”
