This Is About Photography
Before everything shut down back in March, I was able to squeeze in one last newborn session. I had no idea what was to come for the very next week. Photography is not only a job, it is a passion, a creative outlet. When we entered the first lockdown, just like everyone else, it took me time to adjust and understand what was going on. It took me time to figure out how to keep my mind busy and my creative outlet alive. Thankfully, I was able to take a ton of pictures of my beautiful daughters and tried to have fun with it, joining movements like #letsallbewell and #aworldofhearts, playing with my camera settings, trying different techniques, working on my editing style. So although I could not work, photography was very much still a part of my life.
This Is About Human Connections
Photography was always there. But just like everyone else, I was missing the human connection. Being a photographer is being a part of people’s lives, capturing their important memories and sharing in their happiness. I was missing all of that. So I reached out and connected with like minded women, entrepreneurs, mothers. As things opened up, we were able to meet in person. Through a lockdown, we built new lasting relationships. I also took part in the #frontstepsproject. I volunteered in my own neighbourhood for just one weekend. Keeping the stay close to home message in mind, I wanted to spread some cheer and maybe meet a few families in my own neighbourhood. I was greeted with huge smiles and they showed so much support for our front line workers.
This Is About Celebrating Everything That Matters Most
By the time summer rolled around, I was eager to meet new people and do what I love, take pictures of special moments. While sorting through my images from 2020, I found it hard to express through words how it truly felt. So instead of words, I decided to use all of these images. I simply cannot believe the amount of love and positivity that I was surrounded with throughout the rest of the year. My goal as a photographer is to capture life. Everything about life. And this year was exactly that. The images that follow are a testament to human resilience. Every person celebrating something that truly matters, a pregnancy announcement, a gender reveal, a beautiful baby bump, a new baby, an engagement, a wedding, a graduation, a new business venture, a loving family and finally getting to spend time with the grandparents who were so missed. So here are the big smiles and happy moments. Let’s end this ridiculous year by focusing on all of the good!
